I don’t like the expansion to 48 teams – a 50 percent increase over the number that has been used for the past several tournaments. That’s a HUGE jump which will water down the tournament. If you had to expand, be more gradual about it – go to 40 teams. If two teams go into that final match knowing that they both progress with a draw, there will not be a lot of motivation to play an aggressive match. Currently, with the four-team groups, all four teams play their final match at the same time so for the most part, teams have motivation.
